Review: ZonePerfect Cookie Dough Bars

Were you listening a few weeks ago when I told you what appliance I could live without? I am sure that the guys over at ZonePerfect were. Because last week they sent me an email saying they had just the thing to keep my fingers out of the bowl when making cookies this holiday season. Clearly, they know this is a huge problem for  me. Then, the generously sent me some samples of their three newest flavors: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Peanut Butter Cookie Dough, and Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Dough.

When I heard about these flavors a few months ago, I was ecstatic. It’s no secret I love cookie dough, and Zone bars. One of these things is actually a daily habit for me. Can you guess which one?

Fortunately, it’s the Zone bar. Packed with vitamins and protein and weighing in at about 200 calories, I make a ritual of enjoying one every day in my car on the way to the gym after work. I usually choose one of the dark chocolate varieties, and they are so good that I like to think of this as my sacred candy bar time every day. And now, that could could be my cookie dough ritual too!

The cookie dough flavored samples arrived in an adorable “not cookie” jar. Thanks, Zone! I had one teeny little complaint before I even tried them, and that was that they felt a little smaller than the other Zone bars I’ve had. They are actually the same weight as my dark chocolate zone bars, so it must just be that the ingredients are a bit more dense.

But more importantly, how do they taste? Well, it’s not exactly like swiping some cookie dough from the bowl, but they are pretty satisfying. So far I have tried the chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin flavors. Choco-chip is probably a little better because there seems to be more chocolate chips than there are raisins in the other bars. There’s a very sweet aftertaste – but that’s pretty standard from real cookie dough as well so I can’t complain.

Will I be swapping out my dark chocolate zone bars completely? Well, that depends. I buy my bars at either Sam’s or BJ’s and get a really great deal, so if they started carrying the cookie dough flavors I could probably change it up once in a while.

If you’d like a part of the ZonePerfect cookie dough action, be sure to check them out on Facebook. Every Thursday at 3pm, there will be a “Cookie Doughlicious Surprise”! Who knows what you could win – free cookie dough, perhaps? Or, if you’ve read this far and would like a $1 off coupon for a bar or box of bars, you’re in luck – here’s a special promotion just for you!

Now let me change the subject and share some fun news. Tonight, my amazingly talented sister-in-law has her very first gallery show. I absolutely love her work and I’m so happy for her! She does beautiful custom work that is brightly colored and influenced by Middle Eastern and Mediterranean motifs, as well as gorgeous portraits from photographs. If you enjoy art and feel like taking a peek, check out her website and Etsy shop. And if you happen to be in the Boston area and feel like checking this out, feel free to message me and I will send you the details!

Ooh gallery shows are so fun. When I was living in Boston I had a friend who was an artist and I always enjoyed seeing what she was up to. I have to say, I am not usually a bar person but the Zone bars actually aren't bad. I wouldn't go out of my way to buy them, but when they were sampling them here I was pleasantly surprised.

I totally wish I still lived in Boston so I could hang out with you and see the opening! Awesomeness. Congrats to your sister-in-law! These zone bars sound seriously good. I went through a Luna bar and then a larabar phase. Maybe zone is next? Oh and I totally forgot to tell you from about a gazillion years ago that my favorite mexican restaurant in boston is called Sol Azteca. It's on one of the green lines!

Heh, eating the dough is half the fun of baking. I make chocolate chip cookie dough and refrigerate it, and then bake it in small batches over the course of a week. Of course, a good percentage never makes it into the oven …

I wonder if your readers would benefit from a good resource for cookie dough fundraising ideas? There are tons of different cookie dough fundraisers to consider. But not all cookie dough fundraising programs are the same.
