Sunday Funday – Worcester Food Truck Festival and Savorfull Delivery! |
Today, I’m having a true Sunday Funday. Just me and one of my gal pals (plus a cooler full of colorful fruits, veggies, hummus and tabbouleh, and a couple of books loaded onto my Kindle) enjoying a day at the beach!
But yesterday was pretty fun too. The hubs and I hit up a local food truck festival! It was nice to see this come to our city, because while we do have some great culinary spots, we are totally lacking in the food truck scene. My only complaint is that I didn’t get to try more food – because I filled up way too fast, even though we shared everything, and I even let Ben eat the bigger half of everything. Um, where’s that hollow leg when I need it?
1. Couldn’t wait to hit up Bon Me for my first every Bahn Mi! Can you believe I’ve never had one?
2. Meanwhile Ben’s first priority was all about the Hawaiin pulled pork.
3. What’s a food truck festival without BBQ?
1. Frozen Hoagie?! What a cute name!
2. Dogs big enough for sharing
3. Love me some Lobstah!
1. Big Sad Face. Really wanted to try their grilled shrimp burger.
2. My choice here couldn’t have been easier!
In the end, we made room for a lobster quesadilla (not pictured), the chicken bahn mi from Bon Mi, Hawaiian pulled pork sandwich, and grilled s’more sammie. I will tell you that I though the s’more would be my favorite, but for some inexplicable reason, the nutella-graham-marshamallow-on-“brioche” came up short. (I’m pretty sure it was plain ol’ white bread – but even with better bread I still don’t think this would have been anything special.) The bahn mi was the big winner, along with the Thai basil limemade we got with it. So fresh and flavorful, and a big portion for the money – yum! The only truck I really had to tear myself away from was one serving ice cream “cookie splits” – we probably should have got that over the s’more. Instead, we got ice cream for dinner hours later when we were finally hungry again – win!
And…. I got another Savorfull box! In case you missed the first one, Savorfull is a service geared towards helping busy, health-conscious families dealing with food allergies discover the newest and best products on the market to fit their dietary needs and lifestyle. When you sign up for Savorfull at $15/month, you’ll receive a box full of gluten-free, dairy-free and peanut-free goodies delivered right to your door. (Those three allergens are guaranteed, but many items are free of other common allergens too.) Savorfull values products that are as natural, clean, and least-processed as possible. You are guaranteed not to receive anything with artifcial colors, flavors, or any chemicals, toxins, and pesticides you want to avoid.
I was excited to dig into July’s delivery!
Peter Rabbit Organics fruit and veggie puree snacks in Carrot, Squash and Apple and Banana and Apple flavors. Notice the label – there’s nothin’ but fruit. I imagine kids love these – looks like a super easy way to get those veggies in! For myself, I could imagine stirring a puree into oatmeal or yogurt, or adding to a baked good in place of some oil.
Plentils are crispy crunchy chips made of lentils – not that you’d know it, if you didn’t like lentils! I munched on the Margherita Pizza ones after this photo shoot, and had to double check that they were really dairy free (free of the top 8 most common allergens, in fact.) They taste so cheesy, I couldn’t believe it!
Swerve is a new brand of erythritol on the market. I know, I know. That word sounds like some nasty man-made chemical, but I swear it’s not. Erythritol is a natural zero-calorie sweetener that measures cup-for-cup like sugar, making it perfect for baking. I have had great luck with it in some of my recipes over the past year, and I can tell you I’m greatly loving Swerve brand as of late. (PS – they even make a confectioners’ style version, perfect for sugar-free, low-carb frostings!)
For those who love trail-mix (who doesn’t?) this Enjoy Life is a satisfying, sweet and “nutty” nut-free version.
And lastly, a double dose Mrs. Glee’s products, in the form of navy bean flour and noodles made of navy bean flour! I’ve tried many a gluten-free flour, but this one is completely new to me. I’m excited to try it!
What’s making your Sunday fun?
