Sunday Funday – Nourished Photography Presentation Available & Shabby Apple News

A week later and I am still in awe over the fact that people at Nourished really enjoyed my presentation on food photography. Aww, you like me, you really like me! As promised, I am happy to make my presentation available to share with you. I’ve given it a little facelift, adding some images and comments to further explain what we talked about and to answer some of your questions.

For those who weren’t able to make it, my presentation was geared towards beginner food photographers. (An advanced session was scheduled with Susan of Fat Free Vegan, but unfortunately, she got stuck in her travels and wasn’t able to make it – Susan, we missed you!) My presentation covered the following topics:

  • Setting up your photo studio: What equipment and props do you need? Where can you find these things?
  • Plating and styling your food: Using contrasting or complimentary colors for backgrounds and props, accessorizing, tricks for “difficult” food
  • Lighting and camera settings: Lighting positions, dSLR settings, point-and-shoot settings, side-by-side photo demonstrations showing the effect of varying settings
  • Post-processing: Simple steps for editing your photos with a free program available online

If you attended Nourished, you are welcome to a free copy of the presentation. Simply email me through my contact form and tell me something you enjoyed at Nourished. It can be something you learned or experienced or even your favorite food served during lunch. Basically, prove to me that you were there 😉

Some of you who did not attend have asked to see the presentation as well. I am happy to share it with you in exchange for a small ($2 – I told you, small!) donation. I hope you’ll think of it as a little bit of help to defray my cost of traveling to Nourished and to support me in this special project. If you’d like a copy of the presentation, simply click the PayPal donate button below. When making your donation, be sure to leave your correct email address so that I can email you the document. Thank you!

To say I stressed over what to wear to this thing is an understatement. I’m a pretty casual person but I do love me some glam. When speaking in front of a crowd, how much is too much? Seeing as I had never presented at a conference like this before, I really had no idea. In the end I was pleased with my choice of a silk polkadot pencil skirt, ruffly blouse and peep-toe pumps, but I couldn’t have gone wrong with something from Shabby Apple’s new line, The Block, either.

I mean, hello, cute!

If skirts are more your thing, try on the Crosswalk Skirt – with a special savings of 25% off when you use the code “color” at checkout.

Because the Shabby Apple giveaways have been some of the most popular contests on my blog, I know you guys will be psyched about this! Shabby Apple wants to offer an exclusive discount for my readers and you guys get to name what you want. So take a look around at their awesome selection of women’s dresses and tell me what particular apparel line or item you’d like to get a good deal on. I’ll gather the comments and pass them along, and we’ll figure out something good for you. Sound good? Yeah, I thought so.

Will that offer on your presentation be up for a little while? I’m afraid if I get it now, it will get lost in the heap! It’s something I’d definitely like to check out in two months though.

Wow, if only I was tall like those pencil thin models – not in this lifetime! At least they have wee sizes – I’d just need to hem 🙂 I kind of liked the more “rustic” lines line Inca Trail and Sidesaddle, and of course the Blossom workout line. Cute!
