Better Sleep with NightFood

Those of you following me on twitter are probably aware that I’m out of town this weekend. For everyone else not tapped into tweeting, I’m currently attending Fitbloggin’ 2011 in Baltimore, MD. Fitbloggin’ is a conference for health and fitness bloggers. I know, I know. I don’t exactly fall into that category. I’m not one to post my daily bowl of oatmeal or workout achievements (but if I did, you’d know I deadlifted 215, for 4 sets of 3 last week!) I don’t blog much about my weight loss experience or my continuing struggles with food addiction. But these things are very much real parts of my life and it’s important for me to share them with others and listen to their issues in return. I also realize that many of my readers – who visit because you seek healthy, delicious, and creative foods – may come from or be at a similar place in your lives. Finally, as a blogger, I want to understand my impact on my community and take advantage of all the tips and tricks for tailoring my content, reaching the correct audience, and making YOUR experience on my blog as easier and more helpful.

Last night, over martinis, pizza, and gelato (let’s be real: healthy living is all about balance) I got to discuss these issues and more with a bunch of beautiful, witty bloggers. We covered calorie counting, exercise, emotional eating, game playing, battle of control with food – and plenty of fun stuff too. But one topic that hasn’t been touched upon at all in this conference yet, and which I think is a hugely important element to healthy living, is sleep! We work hard, mentally and physically, to be excellent employees, wives, mothers, friends, and bloggers, and it’s important that we get the proper rest and rejuvenation from a good night’s sleep. Unfortunately, I’m not a great sleeper. Insomnia is an on and off issue for me, and I’ve adapted my ways many times to try to improve it.

Most recently, I heard about Nightfood, a bedtime nutrition bar formulated for better sleeping. Let’s face it: if we don’t nourish our bodies with proper, balanced nutrients throughout the day, our systems certainly won’t be able to sustain themselves for eight hours while we rest and stop feeding. Additionally, many people’s night time snacks consist of sugary treats, and these don’t really set us up for good rest. I feel like I do a pretty good (ok, really good) job of making sure I get enough food and balanced food, but, as anyone who I’m sure has struggled with sleep would agree with, I’ll try (almost) anything once. Especially something as simple and non-habit forming as a nutrition bar.

The makers of Nightbar recognized that many people’s sleep problems might be due to lack of nutrition, and designed a balanced bar with that in mind. Nightfood contains a good dose of satisfying fiber and protein, and a few “extras” to make this an extra special night time snack. Melatonin resets the body clock and promotes sleep, and Chocamine, a cocoa extract, improves relaxation and focus (great for people like me who can’t make our brains shut up!) For more details, check out the page on Nightfood nutrition. A couple other things you should know about the bars:

  • They contain zero artificial sweeteners
  • The current available flavor is Cookies ‘n Cream Flavor, but others are in the works (think Peanut Butter and Jelly, Lemon Poppyseed, and Chocolate Raspberry!)
  • They are kosher
  • You can order them online through NightFood, and receive 20% off your first order with the code “cara511” from now through June 15th.

Now for the most important piece: Do Nightfood bars taste good, and do they work? Yes. And, yes! And you don’t have to just take my word for it; I was generous enough to share with Ben too. I will even dare to say that he liked them a little bit more than I did. (Which doesn’t mean I didn’t like the taste, they’re just not my favorite bars ever. And it’s a little funny because I tend to be much more easy to please when it comes to anything dessert-like, which these are. What I’m saying is, if he liked them that much, believe they are pretty good!) Ben doesn’t have nearly as much trouble sleeping as I do, so it would be hard to say if Nightfood helped him sleep better. I, on the other hand, slept like a babydoll with Nightfood in my belly, which made me feel oh-so-good.

So to re-cap: if you’re looking for a risk-free alternative to help you relax and sleep better, why not make it a tasty treat too? Furthermore, why not order Nightfood right now, while you can save 20% on your first order? Just let ’em know I sent you with the discount code “cara511” from now through 6/15.

Sweet dreams!

I hope you had a good time at Fitbloggin'!  I love health and fitness blogs.  I will have to try these bars.  I know I'm not getting enough sleep at night.  Whenever I do fall asleep, it's super late at night.

I'm very intrigued by these bars! I wish they were available in stores though. I'd prefer to buy 1 bar rather than a whole box.  I don't have a problem with sleeping but sometimes I like to have a late night snack.

I know what you mean; I'm hesitant to order stuff online too when I justwant to try it for the first time. It's a pretty new product, and I've beentold they are working on bringing them to stores, so hopefully soon!

Should be mentioned that these bars also contains melatonin, just in case someone is already taking that supplement.

I'm a huge fan of sleeping! Probably why I always feel behind, because I'm not willing to give it up.

what a great post. you are so right. quality sleep is important for health, esp. digestion. when i visited my nutritionist, this was one area she kept stressing, esp. for issues concerning weight loss! our bodies need homeostasis!

I have been away for the past two weeks and am very excited to see these! I have been stuggling with sleep and even did a sleep study recently, with no real results. I am ordering these right now!

How was it? Did it help you get a good night's sleep? I have never tried bars in orderto have a better night of sleep. Good thing we have a firm mattress that doesn't give us body sores when we wake up.mattress for sale

I never thought of trying a food bar for sleep problems. I've always turned to natural sleep aids as they've always worked for me. Thanks for sharing that coupon code.
