Announcing Bloggers Bake for Hope: An online bake sale to cure breast cancer!

Today I’m teaming up with my good friend Jen, otherwise known as the Beantown Baker, to share a great big announcement with you. We have a *little* project we’ve been planning for months now, and we’re excited to formally launch it today! Jen and I have created Bloggers Bake for Hope, an online bake sale to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure! Bloggers Bake for Hope is part of the Bake for Hope, a week-long, nation-wide bake sale. All over the country in the week preceding Mothers Day, volunteers hold bake sales in their communities and all of the proceeds are donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Jen and I both love baked goods and blogging, so we decided that an online bake sale would be a natural and fun way to support the cause.

Of course, we have something else in common too: a big desire to support women everywhere and find a cure for breast cancer. Both of us have successfully raised funds in the past. Jen has made breast cancer awareness part of her personal mission. In 2004, Jen’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since then, Jen, her sisters, mom, and aunts walk the Race for the Cure every year. Jen and her family have raised thousands of dollars for the various Komen for the Cure affiliates. And I am currently organizing my third annual local Bake for Hope at my company’s office site. Last year our bake sale raised $2500, and we are hoping to surpass that number this year.

Are you wondering how Bloggers Bake for Hope will work, and more importantly, how you can help? It’s pretty simple. First, people will volunteer to make a baked good (and no, you don’t need to be a blogger!) There is a simple registration form on the site which you can use to tell us about yourself and your baked good. You can also send us a picture. Once we have that information, we’ll add it to the “For Sale” page. In fact, you can head over now and see all the yummy stuff that volunteers have already committed to making, like Natalie’s Toasted Coconut and Ginger Blondies, Kathy’s Brown Sugar Cookies, Bridget’s Bourbon Pound Cake, or Elina’s Macarons, just to name a few! Also, each baked good will have its own page where the bidding takes place. Yes, I said bidding, not buying – it’s actually more like an auction!

The bake sale will open for business on May 4th. At this time, links to each item’s page will go live. To bid on the baked goods you want, simply leave a comment on each item’s page with the amount you are willing to pay. Be sure to check back to see if someone outbid you! You can bid as many times as you want until May 6th. This is when the bake sale closes. Jen and I will contact the highest bidders for each baked good and ask you to make your donation through PayPal. Then we’ll give your shipping information to the appropriate baker, who will prepare and ship your goodies.

So just to summarize: Bloggers Bake. You Buy! 100% of Proceeds will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Visit Bloggers Bake for Hope today to commit to baking, and visit again between May 4th-6th to make a purchase and support this very important cause. And if you’d like to help even more, be sure to grab a badge and to spread the word to all your readers!

Jen and I are thrilled to be coordinating this together, and hope you’re just as excited to participate. Together, we will find a cure.
