Brie & Chutney Turkey Burgers

One of the great things I see in the food blogging community is that there are so many wonderful places you can take your blog. For many it’s more than just a hobby, and they’ve gained so much exposure and success that they can do wonderful things through their blog. One such blogger is Blake Killian of BlakeMakes. When visiting his blog, you never know what you’ll find – a delicious meal prepared by Blake or his wife, perhaps a guest blogger sharing a delicious creation, or even a contest to receive a free, fun, new food product. Free food? Through a blog? That’s right. When I read about Blake’s giveaway for McQuade’s Celtic Chutney, a sweet and spicy ginger and fig concoction, I jumped right in on the contest by submitting my ideas for dishes I dreamed of making with the chutney. Luckily, Blake liked them and I was chosen as a chutney recipient!

Looking at the many flavors of chutney available through McQuade’s website, I found that many of the varieties combine fruit and spice. Reading the ingredients on the label of my Fig and Ginger chutney, I was delighted to see that there was much more to it! Apples, onions, cider vinegar, brown sugar, onions, chilies, crystallized ginger, allspice, turmeric, cloves, salt, and pepper strike a chord together, creating a deliciously sweet and spicy element. I felt it would be a particularly good compliment to a mild, creamy cheese, specifically, brie. And, it would add a nice contrast to a juicy piece of meat. Lamb would have been great, but for a healthy and economical weeknight meal, I chose turkey. I prepared some basic turkey burgers, seasoned with garlic, onion, salt, pepper, dijon mustard, and a splash of balsamic vinegar. The grilled burgers were served with brie cheese and fig and ginger chutney on a mini whole wheat pita bread. The result? A deliciously different burger. Simply choosing a different condiment and a different type of cheese can easily turn an everyday meal into a gourmet one. Even if I can’t get my hands on any of McQuade’s other flavors in the near future, I’m sure my mango chutney would be just as delicious, and there’s an apple cranberry version from Trader Joe’s that I am dying to try. Thank you, Blake, for helping me make this delicious burger!

That sounds soooo good! I’d add some apple slices because really, what good is brie without apples?
