A few things you should know about me…

I have to thank my friend Krista for the above cartoon because I really couldn’t think of a better rendition of myself. What better way to share what I’m all about? I’m a health & fitness nut with a passion for indulgence as well. So how do I balance that? I work out hard and eat well! Eating well to me is being able to enjoy delicious food without sacrificing flavor or texture, and I love coming up with new recipes to satisfy that criteria. Of course, I make exceptions for holidays and other special occasions, but I take pride in making healthy, seasonally-inspired and flavorful food to nourish my body whenever I can. You’ll notice that my more recent recipes (within the past year or so) often have quantities listed by weight instead of volume. This is because I like to be as accurate as possible in calculating the nutritional information of my recipes for myself, and for anyone else who is interested. I always welcome feedback from readers, and it always makes my day to find out I have a new reader.

I’m lucky enough to have a husband, Ben, who not only puts up with my sometimes-lengthy cooking experiments, but is also adventurous enough to try whatever I make. And even better than that? He thinks I’m the best cook, ever.

When I’m not cooking, you can find me in the gym (my current passion is heavy lifting and intense cardio intervals, but I still fit in an occasional run), developing chemicals for use in electronic materials (for as much time as I spend on this blog, I actually get paid to be an engineer), exploring fun new decor for my home, and spending time with the many friends and family I’m fortunate enough to have close by.

And finally a real picture. I love finding fun foodie events, and this is from one of my favorites. Here’s Ben and me from an August 2009 Outstanding in the Field in Burlington, VT.

Just found your blog! I am so excited. The pumpkin recipes alone made me so happy & will keep me occupied for awhile. I am also obsessed. Thanks for posting nutritional info also. I am trying to eat healthier & make better choices. Subbing pumpkin for some of the cheese in mac n' cheese is brilliant. I was afraid I would never be able to eat it agin wthout feeling super guilty. I am subscribing to your blog & passing the link on to my friend. Thanks Cara!

Hi Cara, I found your site yesterday and just had to come back and explore it more in detail today. This is an awesome food blog, and I can't wait to read the archives. I'm going to be spending a lot of time hanging around here. I am a type II diabetic, and most of the recipes are diabetic friendly with a few alterations. Thanks for putting the nutritional values in your postings. Keep up the good work, you have something here that will be very valuable to many people. I look forward to reading more from you.Judi
